Kathleen Norris is the daughter of FBI agent John Norris. Her father died under mysterious circumstances. His body was found drained of all its blood. Kathleen had no idea that creatures like vampires were more then the fevered fantasy of Bram Stoker. Norris's father was killed when she was fifteen years old. She vowed to make his killers pay. She has become a PI mainly because she didn't want to work for the same government that sent her father to his death--a government that she believes is holding valuable information about the creatures she is seeking to destroy. She also gained an extensive knowledge of the occult and the black arts.
Enter Nicholas Marseilles: He's gorgeous and secretive. He keeps helping her out of scraps and never stays long enough for her to get a good fix on what his true nature is. Unbeknownst to her, Marseilles was sent by a group of vampires to kill this thorn in their side, but he finds he can't do it. Something about her intrigues him. He was expecting a cold blooded killer, instead he found a woman who has pain so deep that she believes she must purge the earth of their kind in order to purge her own pain. While he never meant for her to find out that he was one of the accursed breed, matters took their own course. Gaping wounds that suddenly heal with out the aid of powerful magic are sort of a dead give away.
This leads her to the first test of her belief of the evil of his kind. She also gets the first taste of Bureau 13. Bureau 13 claims to be a secret government agency for investigating and controlling occult matters. From what she discovered, they appear to have a plan to take control of all vampires as a type of "super soldier".
She feels indebted to Nicholas and can't leave him to fry in the sun rise, so she manages to get him back to her place. Where she nurses him back to health.
This lead to an uneasy truce between the two. She still doesn't know he was sent to kill her. (one of his secrets?) She keeps him around partly because she likes him and partly because he is a powerful person to have on her side.
Major problems have happened because she has learned that vampires have sent another assassin after her. She still hasn't figured out that the first one was Nicholas--or maybe she just doesn't want to know. This is there story so far. Nicholas and Kathleen are being pursued by Bureau 13 as well as vampires who may want her dead or may just want her to be one of them.
Kathy is involved in an ongoing Romance subplot with her sidekick. This relationship can potentially likewise lead to Power Complication subplots given that she's a necromancer. The unstable financial prospects of a female freelance detective mean that Job subplots are always around the corner. Finally, both her vampiric foes and Bureau 13 provide her with Enemy subplots.
Kathy is a fairly ordinary-looking woman, somewhat on the chunky side, but nothing to stand out in a crowd. As a detective, this comes in handy. She prefers to "dress for the weather", avoiding flashy or fancy outfits.

Kathy Norris is a skilled necromancer and competent self-taught detective. She is able animate corpses, dispel hauntings, and most recently has developed the terrifying (to vampires) ability to banish undead creatures to the dimension of Limbo.
Likewise, she has greatly refined her mystical sensitivity and is able to recognize supernatural creatures or goings on merely by looking at them. She is also in-tune with mystical currents to the extent that she can sense when major paranormal events are occuring somewhere in the cosmos.
Additionally, she acquired some training in la Savate and has learned to defend herself with firearms and common weapons. Her canne is sharpened on one end for staking vampires, if needs be.
Nicholas Marseilles's vampiric abilities can come in handy from time to time, too.
